Program Description

Event Details

In advance of her appearance as a presenter and panelist at the world-renowned Agatha Christie Festival in England, Teresa Peschel will join us to discuss her book Agatha Christie, She Watched: One Woman’s Plot to Watch 201 Agatha Christie Movies Without Murdering the Director, Screenwriter, Cast, or Her Husband. In writing this book Peschel spent more than two years watching and reviewing 201 movies and television episodes.  The book was published in April of 2023 by Peschel Press.

There are 13 actors who’ve played Agatha Christie’s detective Hercule Poirot and 7 actresses who’ve played Miss Marple, and Teresa Peschel has seen them all. At this event Teresa will talk about them and play clips of their greatest performances.

“I used to be a purist about adaptations,” she said. “But scriptwriters can create a compelling movie from a short story, while a faithful adaptation can be very dull.”

When asked about her favorite Poirots and Marples, she had some unusual ones in mind.

“David Suchet and Joan Hickson are the gold standards. But I loved Japanese actor Mansai Nomura. It was fascinating to see Poirot interpreted through the lens of another culture.”

Books will be available for purchase at the event.
