Program Description

Event Details

Cook the Book is for people who love to read novels, discuss the book, plus create a dish for others in the group to try, a dish that connects with the story.

For our first group, while we share a pot-luck style buffet together, we will discuss:

The Hundred-Foot Journey by Richard C. Morais, an unforgettable story about how the hundred-foot distance between a new Indian kitchen and a traditional French one can show us how to heal the divide between different cultures and tastes.

Participants are asked to bring a French or Indian dish to share with the group, hence our group name, Cook the Book! We can provide recipes or feel free to try your own.

Our book discussion will be shaped by various questions, such as:

How does food connect different spatial locations and histories?

What surprised you most about the story or journey?

What does it teach us about food, immigration, and memory?

We will have copies available for you to sign out at our library or you can reserve one online through Libby.

**If you have your own copy of the book, purchase your own copy, or have already read it and would like to join, please do!  (Registration is still required.)

Our first meeting will be on Thursday, November 16th and we will choose the next book together at our meeting. This is the kind of group where you can jump in when you want to, and don’t need to attend every month, even though we’d love to see you here!

(If you want to be part of our discussion group but don’t necessarily enjoy cooking, plan to bring a drink or napkins or another treat to share.)
