Event Details
Join us for an enchanted night of faerie tales—this time, with adults in mind.
Guided by local author and editor of The Drowsy Dragon, we’ll wander through familiar stories and hidden gems, sharing favorites and finding inspiration together. Main discussion will surround J. R. R. Tolkien's essay "On Fairy-Stories" found in his collection of short stories titled Tales from the Perilous Realm. Check it out at the library or click here to read it!
Enjoy warm drinks and honey cakes as you dive into lively conversation. Guests are invited to bring a faerie tale – classic or modern – they’d love to discuss.
Not sure what to bring? Here are some suggestions!
Modern Fairy Tales
- Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susana Clark
- Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson
- The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale
- The Princess Bride by William Goldman
- The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle
Classic Fairy Tales
- Phantastes by George MacDonald (this is the book/author that inspired CS Lewis)
- Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie
- The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
- The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald
Drowsy Dragon bio:
Welcome to Drowsy Dragon, a brand-new collection of faerie tales and fellowship for grown-ups. Based out of Mount Joy, PA, our first issue includes fantasy stories and illustrations from local authors and artists as well as recipes and discussion questions meant to bring people together. New stories of goodness and light are published bi-annually, in the fall and spring.
Our editor and innkeeper, E.R. Scrivener, is a fantasy writer who lives in Crickhollow House with her husband and daughter where they enjoy creating, baking, and celebrating fictional characters’ birthdays.
This event is free, but registration required.
