Ages 7-16, other family members are welcome to observe. Children under 8 should be accompanied by a responsible adult. Registration is requested but we will accommodate drop-ins as space is available. Note that registration is required to participate in the prize drawing.
One of this year's Longwood Gardens titles, and this season's StoryWalk® installation, is a picture book adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett's The Secret Garden*. This classic children's book captures the nearly magical healing power of spending time in natural settings.
Many cultures have traditional myths that relate to the magical allure of gardens- both wild and cultivated. Join Ms. Sharon and Dr. Nancy Zimmerman to learn about many folk stories about fairies, gnomes, and other 'little folk' that developed in disparate parts of the world. Then we'll use natural materials like twigs, stones, and pinecones to design fairy garden furnishings to attract our own fairies! Make one to keep and one to display along our StoryWalk®. Children may also choose to make a fairy trading card using their imaginations.
This program can be offered in English and Spanish, upon request. Please indicate your interest in Spanish language options in the question prompt.
Registered attendees will be eligible to win a Longwood Gardens family pass, which will be raffled off at the end of the event.
*The Secret Garden is a picture book adaptation of the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, adapted by Calista Brill and illustrated by Adeline Lirius.
