Program Description
Event Details
We welcome representatives from Lancaster Stands Up to share information with the community about the development of large-scale, corporate-owned data centers and their potential local impacts. The discussion will focus in part on pending legislation, including Senate Bill 1114, the Pennsylvania Ratepayer Protection Act, which was referred to the Pennsylvania Senate Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee on December 15, 2025.
The presentation will examine proposed commitments by data center developers, anticipated infrastructure demands, and how these projects may be managed by out-of-state or non-local investors. It will also address potential cost implications for residents.
Using case studies from data center developments in other regions of the United States, the session will outline both challenges experienced by nearby communities and examples where local advocacy contributed to the adoption of regulations addressing energy rates, water use, and environmental considerations.
As data center development expands across many regions, understanding the regulatory framework and potential impacts can help residents engage effectively in public discussions and decision-making.
