Program Description

Event Details

This program is offered to youth regardless of scouting status. Physical merit badges are not provided as part of this program and we do not have a certified BSA Merit Badge Counselor on staff. Please contact our staff for any further details.

We are partnering with a local scout troop to offer their kids some of the achievements of the scout reading badge and are expanding the program to invite homeschoolers, unaffiliated scouts, or any young person who would like to participate in the activity, this is open to all as space permits! The age recommendation for the subject matter is for ages 10+ but we can admit slightly younger children if they want to earn achievements and/or or are motivated to engage in the planned activities.

1) a slide show overview about how books are repaired

2) a 'digital field trip' (presentation) teaching kids about what their library card can provide using our online resources, what events we offer for kids and teens, and volunteer and internship opportunities.

3) an interactive game to show how books are categorized (great for potential future library volunteers!)

4) A walk-around tour of the library's collection, with a built-in scavenger hunt to find materials in the various locations along the way.

5) Q&A session

6) A take-home craft project to make a 'junk journal' out of an upcycled book.
