Program Description

Event Details

Our 2024 Author Series features a broad variety of authors that include a range of voices and perspectives.  Each of these authors has either waived or deeply discounted their appearance fees to support the library. We hope that you will find one or more of them to be enjoyable and relevant.

Please register each person in your group who will be attending. This is a six-week session. Registration for the first session will enroll you in all remaining weeks.

Dr. Robert Frick, historian and presenter, will offer a slide series discussing his self-published book,  Robber Barons (or Captains of Industry if you view them from another perspective). Dr. Frick will provide an historic story of six of the industrialists from the gilded age who became extremely wealthy in the last half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. While they sometimes employed questionable ethical and/or moral methods, their success helped build America. The six men presented will be Cornelius Vanderbilt, Andrew Carnegie, Henry Clay Frick, J.P. Morgan, Jay Gould, and John D. Rockefeller.

Participants should prepare for lively presentations filled with interesting facts and peppered with humor.

Dr. Frick’s goal is education with a smile.

This month's presentation is recommended for adults, older teens are welcome. Views expressed by our visiting authors do not constitute endorsement from the library.
